Kayla Bernier holds an Honours Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology. Prior to beginning her graduate studies, she worked as an Instructor Therapist supporting children with autism, where she developed a strong appreciation for individualized, person-centred care.
As a psychology intern, Kayla is committed to creating a warm, welcoming, and non-judgmental environment where clients feel comfortable being themselves and exploring the experiences, goals, and concerns that bring them to therapy.
Kayla is open to working with a diverse range of clients, including individuals, couples, and families, and welcomes clients from a variety of backgrounds and life experiences. She believes that each person’s experiences, strengths, and goals are unique, and that therapy is not a one-size-fits-all process. Kayla strives to approach therapy collaboratively, working alongside clients to develop an approach that reflects their individual needs and supports their goals.
Her clinical interests include evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), mindfulness-based interventions, trauma-informed approaches, emotion regulation and distress-tolerance strategies, and psychoeducation.
As she continues developing her clinical skills and professional identity, Kayla values the opportunity to learn from each client and to provide a supportive space where individuals can feel heard, understood, and respected.
